Nothing More’s ‘The Stories We Tell Ourselves’ has more hooks, more layers, more feeling
Nothing More
The Stories We Tell Ourselves
ROCKS LIKE: 30 Seconds To Mars, Sights & Sounds, Incubus
WHAT'S DIFFERENT: Somewhat ironically, the watchword for The Stories We Tell Ourselves is “more:” more hooks, more layers, more feeling—more everything. While the divisive nü-metal influences remain, the diversity of mood, tone and instrumentation makes for a deeper, more fluid and more engaging collection.
WHY YOU SHOULD CARE: It took five albums for Nothing More to garner some serious attention, and now that they have it, they’re not about to relinquish it. Varied as the record is, it’s when they unleash towering anthems that they truly excel. “Do You Really Want It,” “The Great Divorce” and “Go To War” pack choruses that could shoot down the sky, and deserve the chance to blast through arena roofs, en route.
OUR PICK: “Do You Really Want It”
