Of Mice & Men cancel tour to focus on Austin Carlile's health - UPDATED

UPDATE: Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 5:20 p.m. EST

After announcing the cancellation of the remaining dates of their European tour, Of Mice & Men frontman Austin Carlile has shared a statement regarding his health issues via Instagram:

“As most of you know I battle daily with a rare fibrostic connective tissue disorder called Marfan syndrome. Due to recent issues arising  from this, we have cancelled the remainder of our European tour. It breaks my heart but the band & myself have decided it was unsafe for me to continue on in this state of health. I'm being admitted to Stanford University hospital where my specialists have been informed & are prepared to figure out what exactly is wrong. I will remain there as long as needed to run tests & come up with an assessment of what exactly is causing my body & heart to seize up. My deepest apologies for those who were on tour with us & also those coming to our shows. I would never cancel unless a limb was falling off or it was endangering my life. Unfortunately it has become the later. Thank you to those who understand & support this decision, I promise to keep pushing & treat this as another hill to climb. My dad has flown from Costa Rica, & my team at Stanford are like family to me, so know that I am not alone. I also know I have all of you, & times like this reassure & warm my heart to know you stand with me as well. Please do not worry for me, there are multiple things more important happening in the world right now. Besides, God has a plan, all of this is in His hands at the end of the day and I'm ready for whatever comes next. – AC”

Of Mice & Men have canceled the remaining dates of their European tour due to frontman Austin Carlile's health, according to a statement on the band's Facebook.

Carlile became ill on Saturday, Oct. 8 in Portsmouth, and the band were forced to cut their set short. After attempting to play a show the following day in Cardiff, the band realized they needed to focus on Carlile's health.

Of Mice & Men and Carlile are returning home, so the singer can receive medical attention. The band are currently supporting their new album, Cold World, which dropped Sept. 9 via Rise Records.

“Dear European Fans,

It is with our sincerest apologies that we are forced to cancel the remaining dates on this current headline tour. We had to cut short our set in Portsmouth on Saturday night due to Austin being in pain throughout the show. We attempted to play the show in Cardiff the following night, but it became increasingly obvious that we were not able to continue and that we need to focus on Austin’s health. As much as we wish we could complete the remaining dates of this tour we know that we would be doing a disservice to all of our loyal fans, as well as ourselves, performing under the current circumstances.

The reality is that we feel the best thing to do right now is go home, get Austin the appropriate medical attention & regroup before we head back out on the road again. We appreciate that our fans understand how important it is that we put health first & foremost & know that we would never cancel shows unless we felt it absolutely necessary.

Refunds will be available at point of purchase for all cancelled shows.

Much love- Aaron, Alan, Austin, Phil & Tino.”
