‘Once Upon A Deadpool’ PG-13 re-release gets first trailer

In late September, the internet first caught wind of a PG-13 re-release of Deadpool 2. Known for its crude but hilarious charm, the re-release of the May 2018 film was rumored to tone down the explicit content enough to bring it down from its “R” rating to a “PG-13.”

At the time, not much was known about the film other than a Dec. 21 release date and Fox shot new footage. Deadpool himself Ryan Reynolds also released a teaser photo, giving hints to what exactly the re-release would be about.

Reynolds tweeted an image of Deadpool in a Santa hat alongside Fred Savage appearing to reprise his role as “The Grandson” in The Princess Bride.

The studio urged press (that’s us) to “guess away.” With the help of Reynolds, a popular theory appears to be that Deadpool himself will be retelling the story of Deadpool 2 to The Princess Bride character. Just like in The Princess Bride, the grandfather brushed all of the terrifying scenes under the rug when retelling the story to his grandson. This seems like a super creative way to present all of the inappropriate content in the Deadpool 2 re-release.

Now, with the first trailer for the film, it’s revealed that that theory was pretty spot-on.

Earlier this month, it was finally confirmed the film will be titled Once Upon A Deadpool and the first poster was released. The movie will have a limited-time run this December. It will also be donating part of the proceeds to Fuck Cancer (renamed Fudge Cancer for PG-13-friendly marketing), according to Deadline.

“Fox has been asking for a PG-13 basically since the start in 2006,” Reynolds told Deadline. “I’ve said no since 2006. Now, this one time, I said ‘Yes’ on two conditions. First, a portion of the proceeds had to go to charity. Second, I wanted to kidnap Fred Savage. The second condition took some explaining…”

We’re finally getting the first trailer in pure ridiculous Deadpool glory. Check it out below.

The limited Once Upon A Deadpool run begins Dec. 12 and ends on Christmas Eve, with $1 for every ticket sold going to Fuck Cancer.
