Original 'Ghostbusters' theme song writer on Fall Out Boy's cover: "I wish they had called me"

In anticipation for the Ghostbusters reboot, which officially hits theaters July 15, Fall Out Boy released a cover of the movie's theme song, featuring Missy Elliot (listen here).

There has been some backlash from fans of the original song, composed by Ray Parker Jr. (via Consequence Of Sound). Many have failed to mention one seemingly obvious point: that Parker must have approved or contributed to the cover at some point. However, according to an interview with Inside Edition, Parker did not.

In the interview, Parker noted that he wishes he had input on the cover.

“I wish they had called me to maybe work with some of the younger guys and help them get a direction,” he says.

Parker also called the cover “interesting,” mentioning “I’m just gonna say maybe I’m an old guy now and I like it the old way.”

The Fall Out Boy Ghostbusters cover will be on the reboot's soundtrack.
