Pale Waves tease new demo sounds like it “could be a Taylor Swift song”

Pale Waves have opened up about their upcoming EP that apparently got some inspiration from the pop sphere.

The EP is set to drop before their highly-anticipated sophomore album, and they also discussed why they chose to do a smaller-release in between LPs.

Pale Waves spoke to NME at Radio 1’s Big Weekend about all of it, beginning with the choice of releasing an EP first.

“Fans are getting impatient so I think we at least need to give them something,” Heather Baron-Gracie said. “I think that’s kind of important as well because I don’t think the album’s going to come for awhile.”

The lead singer also said the band already has 18 songs for the EP that will be cut down to “five or six tracks.”

“The ones that don’t go on the EP will probably go on the album,” Baron-Gracie said.

She recently teased fans with some lyrics via late-night tweets that might have been fueled by alcohol.

“With some, I wake up in the morning and think, ‘Why have I even tweeted that?” she said. “I tweeted one the other day and I was like, ‘Did I do that? Was I that drunk?”

She was asked about a lyric she tweeted the other day that is apparently the chorus of one of their songs. She said the song is a “big tune” and “very very pop.”

“It’s a big chorus. I’m excited to take it into the studio. It’s probably the best-sounding demo that we have,” Baron-Gracie said. “I mean, it could be a Taylor Swift song probably, the chorus. Maybe we’ll just sell it to her and make loads of money … if she takes it.”

She also talked about their love of pop and how it could affect them in the future.

“I feel like we could full-on go pop, but we hold ourselves back a bit,” she said. “It’s like, we’re a band but we love pop so it’s finding that balance. But maybe one day we’ll go full pop and see what happens.”

The EP has yet to been given a release date, so we’ll have to wait and see when we get to hear that.

As recently announced, Pale Waves are playing Reading and Leeds festival this summer. The 2019 edition of the festival will take place on Friday, Aug. 23 to Sunday, Aug. 25 at Richfield Avenue (Reading) and Braham Park (Leeds.)

twenty one pilots, the 1975, Post Malone, Foo Fighters and more are set to headline the British festival. Additionally, Bowling For Soup, Bastille, Yungblud and more will be joining the bands throughout the weekend.
