Paramore’s Hayley Williams recalls texting Taylor Swift after 2009 VMAs at Eras tour

2009 was a wild time, rife with neon splatter, bad haircuts, and people quoting Kanye West, who famously interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV VMAs.

Hayley Williams certainly remembers, as she went into a story about how she reached out to Swift for the first time after the viral moment when Paramore opened the first two nights of Swift’s Eras tour over the weekend.

“Because I’m the shyest freak when I’m not onstage, I did not text her until a certain VMAs scandal. That was the first time that I felt like I have to reach out because this person is really cool and did not deserve that,” she recalls.

The Eras tour will continue April 1 in Arlington, Texas, acting as “a journey through the musical eras of [her] career.” Swift also recently released four new songs to celebrate the start of the extensive run, including cuts from Speak Now and The Hunger Games soundtrack.
