Patrick Stump is continuing his descent into the world of movies and TV with psychological thriller Spell. The Fall Out Boy frontman scored the upcoming film, and a first taste of what’s to come from it has arrived with “Deep Blue Love”

His work with the film follows previous credits on 2017’s Gnome Alone and Changeland. Most recently, he worked on the score for the kids-show-turned-horror-reboot, the Banana Splits, on SyFy.

As for Spell, the film stars Barak Hardley, Jackie Tohn, Magnús Jónsson and Bírna Rún with Valencia guitarist Brendan Walter directing. Stump opened up to Variety on Walter encouraging him to explore new avenues and what it was like to capture Benny (Hardley) in song.

“Brendan gave me a real chance as a composer,” Stump says. “I was allowed to explore elements of my writing that I could never have without the narrative of the film. This score was fantastic to work on because I got to play with the film’s theme of emotional ambiguity: How much of this is actually happening? How much of this is in Benny’s Head? Is he working towards achieving a goal or is he being consumed by some kind of ominous horror? Asking and in some cases answering those questions with music was a real thrill.”

“Deep Blue Love” will appear on the film’s soundtrack, which drops Nov. 1 on Milan Records through Sony Music Masterworks.

More on Patrick Stump and Spell

Crush Pictures production Spell’s synopsis reads, “After the death of his fiancée, an American illustrator runs out of medication while wandering the isolated Icelandic countryside unsure if his compulsions are related to his disorder or if he's being forced to unlock ancient secrets.”

Stump previously sat down with screenwriter and star Barak Hardley to discuss the film’s process. You can view that below.

While many will recall Walter as the guitarist of Valencia, he’s continued to use his creative force elsewhere. Most recently, Walter directed Panic! At The Disco’s mega-hit “High Hopes” as well as Death Of A Bachelor singles “Death Of A Bachelor” and  “LA Devotee.”

This also isn’t the first time Walter and Stump have collaborated as he helmed directing duties on Fall Out Boy’s “Hold Me Tight Or Don’t,” Young And Menace,” “Uma Thurman” and “Irresistible” among others. He’s also worked with Green Day, Weezer and New Politics for several productions each. He teamed up with MAX and gnash for “Lights Down Low” and on lyric videos for Sia (“Chandelier”) and Shawn Mendes (“Life Of The Party”).
