Dietitian Chelsey Amer tells The Daily Meal that pizza is more nutritious than loops or flakes for the first meal of the day—and suddenly, the dorm-room dining trope of cold pizza to greet the morning isn't as crazy as it seems.

“You may be surprised to find out that an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories,” she says of the 'za. But here's the clincher: “However, pizza packs a much larger protein punch, which will keep you full and boost satiety throughout the morning.”

We're only chasing satiety, and this is possibly the most delicious breakfast update we've ever heard. Amer upholds that pizza pie shouldn't be considered a health food, but the dietitian who's captured our pizza-loving hearts contends a slice still stomps Honey Smacks at getting you through the day.

“Plus, a slice of pizza contains more fat and much less sugar than most cold cereals,” adds the nutritionist, “so you will not experience a quick sugar crash.”
