Popeye’s launches “Bring Your Own Bun” after viral sandwich sells out
All anyone has been talking about for the past month has been Popeye’s internet-breaking chicken sandwich.
Besides being loved for being delicious, the sandwiches caused a hilarious feud on Twitter between the restaurant and Wendy’s, Chick-fil-A and other fast-food chains.

It’s also been a meme lately, with the sandwich’s popularity causing some restaurants to become completely overwhelmed with orders.
It became so popular at one point that the chain ran out of sandwiches nationwide for an undetermined amount of time.
Y’all. We love that you love The Sandwich. Unfortunately we’re sold out (for now). pic.twitter.com/Askp7aH5Rr

The announcement came more than two weeks ago, leaving many to wonder when and if the sandwich would finally make its return.
While we don’t have good news yet about when it’s coming back, Popeye’s is offering its patrons an unusual deal to hold them over while they wait.
Popeye’s is now suggesting that people BYOB as in Bring Your Own Bun, so they can put some chicken tenders inside and let you pretend that it’s the real sandwich. While it won’t have any of the other fixings like mayo and pickles, it’s still technically a chicken sandwich.
The tweet includes an entire video promo of people ordering three tenders and putting them between their own buns they bring to the locations. You can see it below.
Try our new BYOB! It’s basically The Sandwich! Only no mayo. Or pickles. And you bring your own bun… Really it’s just three tenders… pic.twitter.com/9jOFyfdae4

While the tweet was most likely just a joke, it caused a lot of stir online with people who thought it was both funny and patronizing, because all everyone wants is for the damn sandwich to be back on the menu already. See what people had to say about the BYOB idea below.
Popeyes just told y’all to come with your hair washed and blown out ????
