In a since-deleted tweet, Poppy confirms that she thinks pop music is dead. Last evening, the artist commented on a tweet that quoted her recent interview with BreatheHeavy. Referencing herself, the comment read, “She isn't wrong.”

The interview discusses how Poppy wants people to interpret her music, her future plans and the effects of boredom.

In the interview, Poppy is asked about the pop resurgence. However, she gives a rather polarizing response:

“I think pop music is dead right now, actually,” Poppy says. “It’s the most boring that it’s ever been. No one is taking chances. Everybody is saying the exact same thing that we already know, and I just pray that one day we can all be enlightened by some singer that will come along and give us some insight on the world. I feel like right now everybody that’s out is saying the exact same noise.”

Because Poppy is generally regarded as a pop artist, many listeners and fans are confused by her take on the state of the genre.

However, in the interview, Poppy says that she is looking forward to playing her metal-esque single “X” and power-pop anthem “Am I A Girl?” the most, these being some of the least radio-pop friendly tracks in her discography.

You can watch Poppy’s music video for “X” below.
