Can you remember the lyrics to “Second Go” by LIGHTS?

Ten years ago this month, Canadian superstar LIGHTS dropped her debut studio album, The Listening. The 13-track record was a kick-start to an incredible career filled with honest lyrics, cathartic melodies and collectible comic books.

From “Saviour” to “Ice,” The Listening contains mesmerizing tracks that we still have on repeat to this day. It’s time to put that LIGHTS knowledge to the test and see if you can recall the lyrics to “Second Go” 10 years later.

More on Lights

Last week, Lights released a new track “Long Live’ featuring blink-182 drummer Travis Barker that’s an ode to her debut album. In addition to the new track, The Listening is also available on vinyl for the first time in honor of its 10-year anniversary.

“If you would’ve asked me when this record came out what I thought I’d be doing in ten years, I’m not sure I would’ve pictured the world that we built here,” Lights said about the new song. “The community that I’ve found in you all has truly shaped me into what I am today.”

Lights posted about the new song online with single art resembling her 2010 Acoustic EP, explaining it’s for “every MySpace using, forum posting, bubble tea drinking emo kid” who has been a fan of her since her first record. You can see her post and listen to the song here.

LIGHTS also discusses the legacy of The Listening in our Class of 2009 special in issue #373 with cover star Awsten Knight. More information is available here.

Prior to “Long Live,” LIGHTS announced her signing with Fueled By Ramen and released “Lost Girls.” The vocalist also revealed behind-the-scenes footage on recording a stripped-down version of “Almost Had Me” from her recently released acoustic album, Skin&Earth Acoustic.

Skin&Earth, originally released in 2017 as a concept album based on her comics, serves as a soundtrack to her comic series, giving life to a story about a girl searching for hope in a post-apocalyptic world. Each track corresponds to one of the six issues in her series, adding depth to LIGHTS’ songwriting and storytelling.

Expanding her horizons to create something more than another concept album, her recent release features acoustic renditions recorded in designated places from the comics to precisely capture the story’s essence.

The latest behind-the-scenes video for “Almost Had Me” showcases a similar environment to the “wastelands” in the comic. LIGHTS ventured to Death Valley National Park to mimic the unknowing and loneliness that En experiences.

Lights is currently touring with deadmau5. You can see the full list of dates below and grab tickets here.
