Remington Leith of Palaye Royale on Nirvana, his "solo album" and more
PALAYE ROYALE’s fab frontman REMINGTON LEITH checked in with AltPress for our 10 Topics section in AP 366 (Jan 2019). From his first solo album (you feeling us, American Satan/Paradise City fans?) to what a life after Palaye might look like, Leith was just as entertaining and coy as we expected him to be.
THE LAST TIME A FAN MADE YOU CRY.
A London show this past October. It was really sweet: A fan’s sister was a huge fan of ours, and she had recently passed. It was such an emotional thing; We dedicated a song to her, and I just started tearing up. It meant so much to us.

THE RECORD YOU WISHED YOU SANG ON.
Nirvana’s In Utero. That’s my favorite record of all time. I love everything about it. It is one of the most honest records ever made.
THE LAST ACCIDENTAL TEXT YOU SENT.
I don’t remember. I do send a lot of drunk texts, but they’re not accidental. [Laughs.] I know exactly what I’m doing.
THE SINGLE-HANDEDLY MOST “ROCK” THING YOU’VE EVER DONE.
This is pretty rock ’n’ roll: We were at the Good Things Festival in Australia, and they were giving free tattoos. I was getting inked 10 minutes before I walked onstage. I got so drunk before the show. For some reason, I really wanted a trident on my leg. [Laughs.] Apparently the drunk Remington was super-excited for the Aquaman movie.
MOST MEMORABLE VALENTINE’S DAY GIFT.
I got this horribly oversized shirt in middle school, like, seven times longer than what I’d actually wear. It was an Abercrombie & Fitch shirt, so…
