Toilet Boys

Sex Music

[3.5/5]

NYC’s Toilet Boys have been M.I.A. for a few years, but by the sound of Sex Music, one couldn’t tell. To wit, the guys are on top of their sleazy rock ’n’ roll game with such fine fare as the title track (appropriately smoldering in its sensuous groove), while they rip it up on the more raucous, high-octane “Nothing To Lose,” “Gimme Everything” and a fun cover of Ramones’ “Carbona Not Glue.” Still, nothing compares to the fierce “Drug Of Choice,” undoubtedly the disc’s most incandescent moment, in all its quick-paced, rowdy, urgent glory. Toward the end of the song while the band intone, “…is my drug of choice,” Theo Kogan, Debbie Harry and even John Waters pipe in with such vices as “rock ’n’ roll!” and “poppers.” Amen! Admittedly, there is one downer on Sex Music; the woefully boring ballad “Astrological,” Fortunately, it’s not enough to kill the mood. (DEAD CITY) Janelle Jones
