The Horrors

[4/5] Horrors frontman Faris Badwan is agitated about something, and he’s taking it out on anyone within hearing distance. These scrappy rockers from Southend, England are spreading their brand of spooky garage-pop with the quickness of the plague, and this five-song EP is fair warning of what kind of bedlam America is in store for when the band sets out for tour in October. One fierce growl from Badwan is all it takes to prove that the band mean business, from the ’50s freakbeat-inspired “Crawdaddy Simone” to the classic “Jack The Ripper,” which opens an overwhelming sense of dread that feels like something very dead has just crawled out of its grave. (Did we mention their keyboard player’s name is Spider Webb?) Watch yer back; the Horrors are coming. On second thought, don’t. (STOLEN TRANSMISSION) Erin Rahel
