Giddy Motors

Do Easy

[3/5] Giddy Motors have the ’90s post-punk aesthetic down. Think Shellac, the Jesus Lizard and Fugazi, and you’re in the right neighborhood. Still, Giddy Motors find a way to add their own stink to the street-sweeping gurgle-murk bass, high-pitched guitar clang and spastic, accent-heavy drumming style. Unlike the average modern rock record-with everything compressed and mashed into homogenous sonic goo-Do Easy maintains an aural approach where each instrument breathes on its own. However, the band members throttle their respective noisemakers tightly enough to pummel the listener when summed with the rest. Giddy Motors put their unique sound to best use when alternating the bombast with whisper-quiet passages-standout tracks include “Kapow” and “Endgame.” The vocals are spoken/sung, forcing further Shellac comparisons, but to their credit, Giddy Motors do put a uniquely English spin on Midwestern post-punk.
