Permanent Me

After The Room Clears

[3/5] Formerly known as Yes, Virginia, North Bellmore, New York’s Permanent Me bill themselves as “that new band from Long Island who don’t sound like all the other bands from Long Island,” but really, the quartet’s hook-heavy attack fits in well among the Isle’s current pop-obsessed ranks (Nightmare Of You, Head Automatica, etc.). PM’s full-length debut, After The Room Clears, was produced by buzz boardsman Matt Squire (Panic! At The Disco, Monty Are I) and draws heavily upon the last decade’s worth of fuzzy, infectious power-pop, marrying Weezer-esque crunch with Over It’s energy and vocals reminiscent of The Guest-era Phantom Planet. The first single, “Allison,” (previously seen on their 2006 EP Dear Virginia) is the kind of skillfully crafted, sugar-sweet sing-along that could quickly win over masses of squealing future fans, but the band have plenty of other goodies to dish out. And at just two years into their existence, you can expect even catchier choruses ahead. (STOLEN TRANSMISSION/ISLAND) Brendan Manley
