Kelsey EP

[3/5]

Metro Sation crashed the Billboard Top 10 last year with the effervescent new wave throwback “Shake It.” But if Miley Cyrus’ half-brother Trace and Mason Musso (whose kid brother Mitchel is also on Hannah Montana) were hoping we wouldn’t keep filing their records with Emily Osment in “Hannah Montana Related,” they probably should have put a little effort into proving they’d have earned a deal regardless. There are four tracks on the Kelsey EP, the fourth of which is an alternate version of the first song, “Kelsey,” which itself is just a Walter Meego remix of their debut single from 2007.

It’s not that the songs on this EP are bad. The synth-fueled Walter Meego remix should have no trouble appealing to people who shook it to “Shake It.” And the alternate version is kind of cool, stripping the track down and replacing the synth with violin until it sounds like something from a John Hughes film. As for the songs that aren’t named “Kelsey,” “Japanese Girl” has a killer synth hook, but it’s been two years since that last record and they couldn’t come up with a better line than “It’s your body to me you’ll give/So come on, let’s live?” Let’s hope the poor girl doesn’t know much English.
