Who Are You Now?

[2/5]

This Providence have finally provided a full-length that doesn’t evoke immediate comparisons of derivation, like their first two albums did. But with their previous musical skin shed, the band have nothing new to show. Who Are You Now? starts out promisingly enough, with “Sure As Hell” sounding like Ace Enders covering the Cure; it’s a surprisingly effective and brooding affair. From there, though, the album quickly devolves into a mess of uninspired emo-pop drivel with electronic sprinkles doing nothing to enhance it. Jazzy breaks and quaint, sunny sing-alongs helped keep the band’s earlier efforts at least listenable, but without any impressive tricks, Who Are You Now? is a patently inoffensive and forgettable 44 minutes.
