To Those Left Behind

The basic formula for a middle-of-the-road metalcore outing is well-established by now, if not beaten into the ground: guttural verses supporting choruses ready-made for radio, rinse and repeat times 11. Luckily, blessthefall know exactly how to double down on each of those elements, crystallizing the dichotomy in a way that simultaneously serves the genre while still feeling new enough to make a lasting impression. Just like 2011’s Awakening, To Those Left Behind charges out of the gates on a rousing, anthemic note before lead guitarist/backing vocalist Eric Lambert shamelessly steals the show. Add in thoughtful lyrics delivered through the hypnotically clean vocals of Beau Bokan on tracks like the closer “Departures,” and you’ve got what is easily blessthefall’s best offering yet.
