Dead Swans - Anxiety And Everything Else EP

Dead Swans

Anxiety And Everything Else EP

Dead Swans hail from the U.K., but sound like they should be based in Boston and playing long-ago classic hardcore shows with the Hope Conspiracy and American Nightmare. This seven-song EP is a suitable stopgap between 2009’s Sleepwalkers and whatever they decide to do next, as it employs the same form of scream therapy for which the band have become known. Only an expert hardcore analyst would discern the slight differences between these new songs and the band’s previous output; Anxiety And Everything Else boadts a fuller production sound, a bit more mid-tempo groove in parts and fast songs that are faster. Really, boththis EP and Sleepwalkers feature mosh riffs peppered with texture, nervous-breakdown-style screaming and enough self-loathing for the lot of us. While we understand the value of purging all negative toxins from your system via a huge circle pit, Dead Swans get draining pretty fast. One song is actually called “Summer Of Hate,” and how Debbie Downer is that? Perhaps an EP is the preferred format for music that comes across so unnaturally miserable. Be sure to follow the prescribed dosage to avoid suicidal thoughts.
