This One’s For You

Tough-guy hardcore is entirely a labor of machismo. No one plays in a band like Deez Nuts to get the ladies; it’s all about bro-ing down with your crew in the sweat-pit. There are lots of veins bulging in necks and cussing left and right on This One’s For You (sample lyric: “Don’t open up your lips unless you’re about to suck a dick, bitch,” from “I Don’t Give A Mother Fuck”). And, yes, gang vocals feature very prominently. It’s like Deez Nuts mastermind JJ Peters (ex-I Killed The Prom Queen) went to a few too many Madball shows, moved to Australia (which he did), and then holed himself away in the outback to perfect the art of testosterone-core. He’s done a very good job actually… did he just shout “more better”? Bonus points for bad grammar legitimacy. They don’t teach that shit on the mean streets of Melbourne. There’s even a guest appearance by Oli Sykes of Bring Me The Horizon to up the tough-guy ante. But even with that bit of sweet meat, your girlfriend will still absolutely hate this. While we patiently await someone to fight us over this review, step off a bit and realize this has all been in good fun, and this album is a real hoot.
