I The Mighty fuse impressive riffs and melodies on new album

I The Mighty

Where The Mind Wants To Go/Where You Let It Go

ROCKS LIKE: Too Close To Touch, Coheed And Cambria, Pierce The Veil

WHAT’S DIFFERENT: Never ones to be put in a box, I The Mighty continue to develop their genre-defying craft on Where The Mind Wants To Go/Where You Let It Go. Brent Walsh’s crooning is effortless once again, and the Californians’ dalliances with pop on cuts like “Pet Names” are undeniably ambitious. They don’t always get it right, but I The Mighty’s uninhibited imagination should be applauded.

WHY YOU SHOULD CARE: This is a band teeming with ideas and unafraid to follow their collective heart. I The Mighty impress both in terms of both driving riffs (“Escapism”) and ethereal melodies (“Degenerates”). “I’m not a perfect man/I fuck up often,” Walsh sings on the latter track. Rest assured, this album is more “fuck, yeah” than “fuck-up.”

OUR PICK: “Degenerates”
