MyChildren MyBride - Lost Boy

Lost Boy

We’re sure more than a few followers of the Solid State Records legacy were crossing their fingers that Alabama’s MyChildren MyBride would fill some of the void created when Norma Jean left the label. But life ain’t that convenient, and MyChildren MyBridge tend to set up shop in the breakdown-mosh realm. Luckily, they do it well, but they ain’t no Norma Jean–musically, lyrically, anything-ly… Then again, maybe that was never their intention.

Their intention, it seems, is to pummel listeners with repeated spinning scissor-kicks and whirling dervishes in the great old circle pit of life. When it’s not musical beatdowns like the completely frantic title track, Lost Boy is delivering Slayer-esque mosh-chops previously reserved for the bros in Hatebreed. Trouble is the formula they’ve somewhat perfected is repeated, um, repeatedly throughout this album’s first 11 tracks. The only real reprieve is a pleasant little hidden bonus track that acts as a cool-down after a lengthy pumping of all muscles mosh. It’s like, dudes, mix it up a little, no one without a serious steroid-abuse problem can have this much testosterone, can they? Getting through this whole album in one sitting is like watching a UFC marathon.

“Hooligans,” in particular, is sure to be a circle-pit anthem in the monkey-hardcore circuit. And if listening to tons of sweaty dudes gang-shouting, “We are the lions!” to some chugga-chugga action is your deal, by all means, fill your boots.
