Navigating The Bronze

[4/5]

Let’s hope you weren’t planning a quiet evening at home, because Akimbo will have absolutely no part of it. Their latest, Navigating The Bronze, is in some ways a departure from their chaotic style of hardcore, and in other ways an album with even more intensity than anything they’ve recorded to date. “Wizard Van Wizard” displays a more deliberate and calculated Akimbo than anything heard on their previous four albums. The muddy-sounding guitars still rage, and the raspy vocals are as intense as ever, but speed has been traded in for more of a buildup and harnessed energy. The trio still let loose, and they still sound as tight as ever; look no further than “Hiding In Paper” to feel the sheer rage and power of the band-a power that was never in question, and a power still poised to knock you on your ass.
