Noah's Ark

[4] Quite possibly the only consistently compelling album ever to feature unicorns and a rainbow on its cover, Noah’s Ark showcases the vivid imaginations and cat-powered voices of CocoRosie’s two sisters, Bianca and Sierra Casady. Taken one tune at a time, the precious backdrops (piano and programmed percussion accented by bells, equestrian whinnies and feline mewls) and precocious satirical lyrics (“aborted babies will turn into little Bambies”) can be difficult to digest. But this smartly sequenced album casts a cumulative spell, and by track five, “she drew a beautiful picture of a whale” seems like a reasonable reprise. (TOUCH AND GO) Andrew Miller
