Innaway

[3] Innaway’s debut is heady with ample atmospheric keys and dreamy meandering reminiscent of Obscured By Clouds-era Pink Floyd. The rehashed psychedelia is pulled off with a dusty and shimmering authenticity, but there aren’t enough moments tense with the kind of guitar playing that feels like claws coming from the speaker. And they can do those flare-ups masterfully, as proved in stunning bookends to the song “Rise” and a few other peaks of the album. Elsewhere, this is a lot of twisting the machines to see what comes out, balanced by a stompy, relentless groove that’s to be expected from a disc mixed by Tortoise collaborator John McEntire.
