Eddy Current Suppression Ring

Primary Colours

[3.5/5]

There’s something beautifully honest about copping your sound from a band you love. The results aren’t always great, but when they are, there’s nothing purer. Australian garage punks Eddy Current Suppression Ring love the Stooges. Like, just fucking love them so, so much. They love all the right things about them, too, not just Iggy’s stage presence or his larger-than-life persona. The result of that devotion is Primary Colours, a totally ass-kicking collection of understated rock ’n’ roll that sounds like it could just as easily have emerged from some shitty Michigan town in the ’60s as the other side of the world, 40 years later. “That’s Inside Of Me” shuffles along with a slowly evolving riff that doesn’t rush to its big, dirty finale, while “Which Way To Go” is a straight-up ball-busting rocker right through. Iggy would approve. (GONER) Sam Sutherland
