Dr. Dog

Fate

[3.5/5]

Since their debut album Easy Beat was released in 2004, the overwhelming stigma with Dr. Dog is their uncanny likeness to a certain legendary Fab Four conglomerate from Liverpool. Boasting fluffy pop harmonies alongside pseudo-’60s psychedelia, Dr. Dog’s contributions to modern music aren’t readily apparent; they simply conjure the feel-good temperament of solid rock from decades past too succinctly to escape the shadow completely. That’s not to say Fate isn’t a stunning addition to the group’s impeccable groove-oriented stockpile. “The Old Days” borrows Sgt. Pepper wooliness and sets it up for epic, upbeat jam cutlets; and “From” is easily the tearjerker soundtrack tantamount to a sunset departure of a summer lover. Whether or not Dr. Dog can be duly revered based on their own merits remains to be seen, but in the meantime, they’ve got a ringer on their hands. (PARK THE VAN) Ryan Prado
