Heart On

Eagles Of Death Metal are Sweet Tarts in the tank of a high-octane rock ’n’ roll machine. Their lip-puckering guitar squalls and gravelly rhythms will make the most devout headbangers lower their horns and succumb to an undeniable urge to strut their stuff. Heart On is on par with the band’s previous efforts when it comes to ultra-swarthy innuendos. The record is kick-started with “Anything ‘Cept The Truth” and “Wannabe In L.A.,” which fuse the hard, fast lifestyle these guys (Jesse Hughes and Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme, still moonlighting) celebrate with a Fu Manchu ’stache and some handclaps. The title track and “Prissy Prancin’” flaunt some of EODM’s best assets: Booty shakin’ grooves topped with loud, grimy guitars. However, the disc begins sucking on fumes in its second half, as “Cheap Thrills” and “Solo Flights” mosey down the highway of mediocrity.
