Seclusion

[5/5] It’s taken them a few albums to get there, but Scotland’s Aereogramme have finally found their niche. Instead of melting into the post-rock ether, as their countrymates (and sonic brethren) Mogwai are prone to doing, the quartet have chosen the more straight-ahead wall-of-guitar rock sound for Seclusion, and it’s a style that suits them beautifully. One moment, they’re throwing out harsh, Isis-style riffs, while the next, they’re layering somber melodies with a surgeon’s touch. Seclusion’s dramatic highs and lows make it the perfect soundtrack to an imaginary movie, and as luck would have it, the album comes with an actual mini-film of its own, an homage to the band’s favorite Japanese horror directors set to the chilling “Dreams And Bridges.” Simply stunning.
