Everyone Is Out To Get Us

[4/5] Exploring paranoia, aliens and conspiracy theories while simultaneously embracing pop culture and thumbing his nose at scenesters, Far-Less singer/lyricist Brandon Welch has an obvious disregard for the ordinary; and, musically speaking, his bandmates follow suit on their sophomore album. Renewing the post-screamo sound of their 2004 EP Turn To The Bright, Far-Less are all over the stylistic map on Everyone Is Out To Get Us. One minute, they’re layering a Muse-worthy wall of guitar texture behind Welch’s soaring/roaring vocals (“Jumping The Shark”); the next, they’re locked into a fit of shrieking chaos (“I Looked At The Trap, Ray”). Ironically, despite Welch’s apparent aims to the contrary, even the most fashion-driven scenester will find something to love in Everyone Is Out To Get Us–that’s just a risk you take when you’re so far ahead of the curve.
