No Trigger

Canyoneer

[4/5] Cheers to any all-male punk/hardcore band with the guts to write a song about the scene’s oft-forgotten women. Ah, but the fact that No Trigger are tackling the great imbalance of the sexes on “More To Offer” isn’t the only reason this female writer is loving their debut album. Rather, it’s the feisty hardcore punk on Canyoneer, which, despite being edgy and aggressive, is packed with melodies, often bringing to mind Good Riddance’s best work in its sheer sing-along power. (Some of these gang-vocal choruses are ridiculous!) That No Trigger also write intelligent, socially conscious lyrics doesn’t hurt their cause, either. True, Canyoneer doesn’t open with the most impressive song–“The (Not So) Noble Purveyors Of The Third Or Fourth Coming” is the disc’s poppiest and least heavy track–but once “Neon National Park” kicks in and the band proceed to rage on through the somber, hard-hitting “My Woods” and “Tundra Kids,” things get a lot more interesting.
