Brightblack Morning Light

[3/5] Once this whole pop-punk thing dies down, we’re putting our money on psychedelic indie rock as the next big thing. Alongside acts such as Six Organs Of Admittance, Vetiver and Espers, Northern California duo Brightblack Morning Light are helping to jumpstart the genre’s latest revival. In fact, the song titles on BBML’s Matador debut album could give Pete Wentz a run for his money-you know, if he smoked a lot of peyote (see: “We Share Our Blanket With The Owl”). Rife with wah-driven guitars, occasional horn breaks and steady percussion, the 10 drone-y songs on Brightblack Morning Light sound more like a soundtrack than a traditional album-and listeners should be content to sit back, close their eyes and enjoy the ride, man.
