Cansei De Ser Sexy

[4/5] Getting their start on the music-posting website TramaVirtual, it’s no wonder São Paulo’s punchy, to-the-point CSS are charged with waves of electronic pop-rock. The sextet’s passion for design, fashion, art and cinema fuels the dance-o-tron sensations and a well-deserved poke at the pop-culture princess on “Meeting Paris.” Bouncing between English and their native Portuguese, CSS are not inhibited by any means, emoting about what’s on their minds on “Art Bitch” and what makes them sweat on “Music Is My Hot, Hot Sex.” Then there’s the romantic ditty “Let’s Make Love And Listen To Death From Above” bubbling with a new-wave bass line that’d make Malcolm McLaren’s curly head smile. Considering the girls and guy were musical virgins three years ago, without even the basic knowledge of how to work a keyboard, it’s quite an impressive start. (Sub Pop) Kim Owens
