The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower

INRI EP

[3/5] After releasing an album as urgent as 2005’s Love In The Fascist Brothel, The Plot To Blow Up The Eiffel Tower knew they had to take things to the next level. But who knew that would mean releasing an EP with one new track, a David Bowie cover and a remix by Yeah Yeah Yeah’s Nick Zinner? Yeah, it’s inexplicable, but not bad. The hypnotic new track, “INRI,” shows the band getting in touch with their inner Liars and exploring more of a mid-tempo, damaged NYC art-punk vibe. Their cover of Bowie’s “Boys Keep Swinging” sounds closer to classic Roxy Music than the drunkenly vibrant original. But the EP’s real strong point is Zinner’s remix of the title track, which is by far the most sonically interesting thing on the disc-which, come to think of it, probably isn’t a good thing.
