Casually Smashed To Pieces

[3/5] In the indie-rock world, the word “instrumental” is often synonymous with “mind-numbingly dull.” Thankfully, that isn’t the case with Six Parts Seven’s latest release, Casually Smashed To Pieces. Admittedly, the eight tracks on the Kent, Ohio, band’s latest disc aren’t going to incite any more police action on their college’s campus, but by implementing sub-bass, ethereal synths and whirring woodwinds, songs like “Stolen Moments” sound like world music from another planet. While it’s difficult to listen to Casually Smashed To Pieces from start to finish unless it’s the soundtrack to, say, cleaning your house (the album tends to drag quite a bit toward the end), it’s definitely a step in the right direction for these indie-rock vets.
