Metric Buttloads Of Rock!

[3/5] Before and after Hot Water Music, there were and are Radon, debatably the greatest Gainesville, Florida, punk band, but certainly the only one who conquered the poles of the idiotic and the profound. In Radon’s 17 years spent defining tough, infectious drunk-punk, this is only their second proper full-length-and despite the title Metric Buttloads Of Rock!, it ain’t all goof. The album has punk poetry in "Rehab Barbie," a song about someone so fucked up she’s "gotta lie to tell the truth," and the bittersweet hard-pop blur "Minneapolis," a tribute to the major influences in Radon’s DNA: Hüsker Dü and the Replacements. But over on the other end, there’s "King Of The Sh1tlist," a riff on domestic squabbling played like a parody of Southern-rock, and "Four Inches Of Heaven," exploring the redeeming aspects of owning a four-inch penis. While plenty of bands have followed Radon’s prototype-the best of them being Gainesville’s Grabass Charlestons and Milwaukee’s Modern Machines-Metric Buttloads Of Rock! proves that Radon know best what sincerity and stupidity are all about.
