Eating's Not Cheating

[3] Part Eminem, part Har Mar Superstar, cartoon-character voice actor Chris Ward’s alter ego, MC Chris, returns with his third proper CD, Eating’s Not Cheating. Ward spends most of these 14 tracks talking about A) how great he is (“MC Chris Owns”), B) all the women he has sex with (“Tractorbeam”), C) smoking weed (“Toothpick Spliffs”) or D) all of the above (“Evergreen”). It’s kitschy and clever at times, but when Ward mentions using Friendster to pick up chicks in “Boys Don’t Cry,” it feels pretty dated. Beatmaster John Fewell tries to keep things moving with some cool electrostatic creations, but all in all, it’s a rather uneven homemade hip-hop disc. However, if you gave him Heiruspecs as his backing band? Shit like “Stop Time” would kill. (DC FLAG)-Scott Heisel
