LoveHateHero

White Lies

[3/5] Although multiple personality disorder is not generally a trait you hope to find in a band, the constant battle of musical identities actually seems to be a positive thing for Los Angeles quintet LoveHateHero. With songs ranging from melodic, early-Story-Of-The-Year-type screamo (“Of Sound And Fury”) to chug-a-lug, guitar-solo-driven metal (“You Got Served”) to introspective, ballad-esque rock (the bitter mope of “Move On”), LoveHateHero somehow combine a multitude of styles and sounds into an encompassing sonic sensibility all their own. This sense of self is augmented by singer Pierrick Berube’s surprisingly strong vocals, particularly in comparison with his counterparts in the genre in which LoveHateHero have been slotted. This album’s not necessarily groundbreaking, but there’s something to be said for finding your own voice. Plus, the band get extra points for wrapping the album up with a song called “She Puts The Ho In Homewrecker.” (FERRET) Emily Zemler
