The Burning Season

Onward Anthem

[2/5] Artists tend to get comfortable with a particular style, and for many, their second effort is typically a step up. In the case of Cincinnati’s the Burning Season, Onward Anthem seems to have been written by a completely different band than the one who made 2005’s The Haze Of Infatuation. Tracks like “Bite The Bullet” start with loud screaming that commands attention, but that intensity soon fizzles into a mess of clean vocals that are more of an annoyance than anything. Album opener “The Broadcast” does the same-starting out promising only to become forgettable. Each track seems to be a repeat of the one before, none standing out more than others. If you’re a fan of the Burning Season and expect another album as intense as their first, you’ll most definitely be disappointed by the clean vocals muddying up this band’s signature sound.
