Come Back To You

[3.5/5]

While Down To Earth Approach’s admiration for their emo forefathers was apparent all over 2004’s Another Intervention (Chris Carrabba even co-produced it), they weren’t quite ready to be mentioned alongside their idols. But DTEA find their voice on their long-gestating second effort Come Back To You, and though it still conjures memories of Vagrant’s back catalog, it warrants the comparisons. Sure, the Get Up Kids can be heard all over “Night Moves” and “Waiting,” and the excellent “See You” recalls Saves The Day, but DTEA have the chops-and, most importantly, the heart-to make these songs succeed. So while Vagrant goes on expanding its roster and next fall’s middle schoolers will likely continue to assume emo’s always been about arena tours and guyliner, here’s a welcome reminder of what got us mid-’20-something “oldtimers” singing along in the first place.
