Some Kind Of Heroin: The Grudge Remixes

[1.5/5]

According to Some Kind Of Heroin’s promo pics, it appears Mortiis has unfortunately jettisoned his prosthetic elf-ears and crooked proboscis. Add this unacceptable turn of events to the fact that this is a 78-minute collection of remixes, and it’s almost like ol’ Hávard Ellefsen is asking for a big, fat zero-out-of-five. The remixes themselves are sourced from The Grudge, Mortiis’ last studio album, and are transformed by electro-dance, EBM and darkwave folks from Gothminister and PIG to Kubrick and Velvet Acid Christ. Aside from the Joy Division-ish treatment of “Way Too Wicked” given by the Kovenant and the Dope Stars’ hammering, thrashing remix of “Decadent & Desperate,” most of Heroin sounds like early NIN-when it doesn’t sound like you’re at a Gay Pride celebration. That’s not a dig at our gay friends, but as anyone who’s ever been within earshot of a Pride Day Parade knows, that’s the place to go for some of the worst techno and dance music. Ever.
