Seattle’s Onry Ozzborn and JFK are some hella talented MCs. Those who’ve seen them live can attest to the energetic fury that is Grayskul. However, if you’re judging them purely on their recordings, you may be less impressed-2005’s Deadlivers failed to capture the true spirit of the group. Luckily, there’s Bloody Radio, which successfully translates their intensity to wax and just happens to be one of the best indie-rap records this year. Their passion for hip-hop is clear: “Virginia N.M.2” finds the duo reminiscing on the genre’s early days, while the title track examines the ugly nature of its current state. The disc boasts impressive guest spots from the finest in underground rap (Aesop Rock, Pigeon John, Slug, Cage), but it’s the more surprising collaboration with former Pretty Girls Make Graves singer Andrea Zollo on the spine-tingling “Missing” that really shines.
