Life On Repeat

As I Grew EP

[2/5]

Formerly known as Amen The Animal, Maryland five-piece Life On Repeat are suffering through a bit of an identity crisis on their four-song Equal Vision debut. In opening track "Southern Girls," frontman Patrick Purves sounds like the Audition’s Danny Stevens–the problem is, the rest of LOR are slamming through double-bass rolls, Hawthorne Heights-styled guitar chugging, galloping-punk verses, an Avenged Sevenfold-esque guitar solo and Attack Attack!-style synth-dance parts. It’s a hot mess, and honestly, you won’t want to make it your boo. Other tracks on As I Grew fare slightly better due to a small decrease of genre overstuffing, but none of the songs have a clear focus. The songs are loud, energetic and in-your-face (thanks to producer Brian McTernan), but they don’t leave you with much in the way of memorable hooks. Our advice to this young quintet? Stop hitting "shuffle" on your iPod and focus. (EQUAL VISION) Scott Heisel
