Atop a Golgotha made out of severed heads, painted gold and encircled by the rainbow that Jesus ejaculates as he executes a defenseless Photoshop infant, the Christ figure hangs crucified. At least that’s what the artwork adorning Lords’ latest would have us believe, and there’s no reason for anybody to take their hyper-color blasphemy less seriously than they do (which is to say not seriously at all). Still, this Louisville, Kentucky, trio bring 14 short, sharp shocks of grizzly AmRep-style noise unfettered by song titles like “Why I Don’t Give A Fuck,” “Fucking With Fire” and “’Cause All Of You Are Fucked.” All of which are as good reasons as any for guitarist/vocalist Chris Owens to do his best Rollins impression, resplendent in all the hearty angst a man of frequent fisticuffs can muster. Elsewhere, bassist Matt Jaha (who recently left the band after an incident involving said fisticuffs) and drummer Eric McManus (formerly of LickGoldenSky) bash the ever-lovin’ tar out of their instruments as part of a righteously orchestrated sacrifice to the cacophony gods.
