Let Me Come Home

[4] AP called Limbeck’s 2003 debut album, Hi, Everything’s Great, “the best alt-country album of the year.” Unfortunately, we can’t say the same for that record’s follow-up-but that only works in the band’s favor, because with Let Me Come Home, Limbeck have transcended the alt-country tag and made a timeless rock album that sacrifices obligatory twang for gorgeous arrangements and shimmering melodies that, honestly, we never saw coming. That’s not to say songs like “Usually Deluded” won’t turn Motion City Soundtrack fans onto the Jayhawks; it just means the band sound more comfortable in their skin this time around, whether that means holding back where they need to (“Sin City”) or honky-tonkin’ when it’s called for (“Watchin’ The Moon Rise Over Town”). Sure, this tendency can make some of the transitions on Let Me Come Home a bit jarring, but, as with all great albums, if you’re really listening, these idiosyncrasies ultimately become part of Home’s charm.
