Miscarriage

[4.5/5]

We don’t know what’s better?Virgins’ edgy, melodic hardcore, or their spot-on socio-political commentary. To wit, Miscarriage’s opener, “Another’s Gun,” posits the interesting question of what would we do if the U.S. were invaded and occupied by another nation, all enveloped in devastatingly catchy hooks. Elsewhere, the stellar hardcore blast “Burn” lambasts white supremacists, and the tough-as-nails “Bloodlust” discusses how mindless TV desensitizes. The Florida trio sink their fangs into religion on “Atheist In America” and “White Night,” whose bouncy tone belies lyrics that evoke religious horror-stories like the Jonestown Massacre (“Jungle poison punch/Three hundred dead by lunch”). “Guitarmageddon” rips as hard as its title implies. Still, for all this goodness, Miscarriage’s true piece de resistance is “War Choppers,” a galloping, severely heavy finale that poignantly discusses America’s actions in the Middle East.
