Rifoki - Rifoki

Rifoki

Before his current incarnation as a globetrotting DJ, Steve Aoki made music the old fashioned way: with his throat. In This Machine Kills, he screamed and preached a righteous hardcore gospel inspired by Born Against and the Ebullition Records roster. Fast-forward 10 years, and Aoki has teamed up with Italy's Bob Rifo (of electronica duo the Bloody Beetroots) to form Rifoki. Why? Hard to say; where Aoki once screamed earnest, politically charged anthems, Rifoki's self-titled EP sports minute-and-half tantrums like "Sperm Donor" and "Zombie Attack"–Crimson Curse-meets-Trash Talk blitzkriegs that might have been pumped out at 4 in the morning on a drunken dare. Within that context, it pretty much kills. Rifoki may not be Aoki's full-on hardcore comeback–but as a brainless spasm of bloodcurdling nastiness, it satisfies.
