The Turbo A.C.'s - Kill Everyone

The Turbo A.C.’s

Kill Everyone

Greasy and sleazy, loud and lewd, New York's longest-running punk rock ’n’ roll brigade the Turbo A.C.'s don't have a name for themselves so much as they do a legacy. Fast approaching their second decade, they've survived trends and established their own sound, style and onslaught. The trouble with that? Keeping fresh material as feisty, vicious and dominating as their older music. In that respect, Kill Everyone isn't exactly winning the war. While many of the album's 17 tracks are crafty, dynamic tunes, the quartet also seem mired in some sort of pop-influenced wallow.

The first quarter of Kill Everyone feels more like the half-time radio-friendliness Sum 41 producer Greig Nori would helm rather than the type of punk ’n’ roll which helped define labels such as Nitro and Gearhead. There are some wonderfully redeeming bouts of testosterone during the second portion of the album via revved-up barnstormers “Ancient Chinese Secret” and “Live Fast Die Slow,” but it’s not enough. Growth and variation are positive things but overall, Kill Everyone seems like a cautious step out of the band's comfort zone in hopes of appealing to a different demographic. Here's hoping it works just enough to draw everyone—A.C.'s included—back to their ravaging world of double-time beats, searing riffs and snotty vocals.
