Torture The Artist - Torture The Artist

Torture The Artist

Featuring Mass Giorgini on bass and Dan Lumley on drums, Torture The Artist are able to bill themselves as ex-Screeching Weasel, Squirtgun and Common Ride–enough to catch any self-respecting pop-punk fan’s eye. But it’s actually vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Jorge Orillac that makes Torture The Artist such an interesting proposition. Exploring his cultural roots, he’s included a few songs with Spanish lyrics on his band’s debut album, including the catchy-as-hell “Vanesa,” but those songs sound completely natural when heard alongside the likes of the sonic, melodic onslaught of “Razorblade.” Despite that touch of Latin flair, there’s little ground-breaking on display; indeed, all of the usual influences are present, from Green Day and Alkaline Trio to the Smiths and the Clash. But even with that lack of innovation, Torture The Artist–and Orillac in particular–have put together a set of tunes that are infectious and irresistible.
